sms-man.com and onlinesim.io: the two to avoid

Not recommended by the labsms-man.com was impeccable for five months — 85.3% of codes received, a 25-second median — until our fourth top-up in August. Once cumulative deposits passed about 100 USD, the account went "under verification" and the $64.00 balance was frozen pending an identity document and a selfie.
"NO KYC" is written large on its homepage; the clause that contradicts it is buried in article 14.3 of the terms. We sent nothing, and $64.00 is still blocked. Never send an ID to a service that lies about its main promise — that is exactly the kind of database that ends up leaking. It is kept out of the scored ranking.

Not recommended by the labonlinesim.io received only 58.7% of codes and changed domain three times in six months. In July it went offline for eleven days; when it returned it announced a "technical migration" and every balance had been reset to zero — $38.00 gone.
It is the one place that kept its no-KYC word: it never asked for anything, not even before wiping the balance. But "forgot password" emailed us our own password in clear text, so it is stored reversibly, and there is no 2FA. No-KYC does not mean safe. It is kept out of the scored ranking.

VirtualSMSNumbers leads with 9.2/10. It received 96.7% of the 150 codes at a 11 s median — the tightest in the test — and stock never ran dry over six months. Coverage is wide: 180 countries and 2,500 services. The five misses were all in the rarest countries and were refunded automatically.
It asks for an email (a disposable one works) and nothing more, even through 180 USD in top-ups, a balance refund and account deletion. Top-ups take Lightning, BTC, LTC, USDT, ETH and TON, credited in about 40 s from a $2.00 minimum. It is the priciest of the top three on the larger services, and keeps connection logs for 30 days.

No KYCThe invisible one: no email, no password, over Tor
ReadyOTP takes second with 9.1/10, receiving 94% of codes at a 18 s median. Its no-KYC is the most radical here: no email and no password — your account is a 16-digit ID — and the site is reachable over a .onion address. It never asked for anything, even for a refund past the no-KYC threshold.
It is the fastest to top up (Lightning credited in about 5 s) and accepts Monero, LTC and USDT. Coverage is narrower — 150 countries and 1,200 services. The trade-off is real: lose the 16-digit ID and you lose the balance, and support is ticket-only.

No KYCThe wholesaler: biggest catalogue, lowest prices
OTPAtlas scores 9.0/10 with 92.7% of codes at a 27 s median. It has the biggest catalogue in the test — 190 countries and 3,000 services — and an unverified email is all it asks for. It is about 25% cheaper than VirtualSMSNumbers on the larger services, with an automatic refund when a code does not arrive.
It accepts over 15 coins but no Lightning; the balance is credited after on-chain confirmation, about 360 s. The weak points are operations: support is slow (about six hours), the interface is cluttered, and we hit two outages, one lasting three hours on a Saturday night.

No KYCThe snail: codes arrive, topping up is a slog
SMSario scores 6.7/10: 80% of codes arrived at a 45 s median, so reception is fine. Everything around the money is the problem. Top-ups are Bitcoin only, on-chain, with a manual "operator" validation that takes 2 to 19 hours, and the minimum deposit is $30.00 for codes that cost cents.
Comparing each amount sent against the amount credited showed a systematic ~8% gap documented nowhere, and the balance is non-refundable. Between the low headline prices, the hidden gap and the locked-in minimum, it is the most expensive site here when you only need a few codes. No identity was ever demanded — the fault is cost, not privacy.

No KYCThe graveyard: cheap, but the numbers are burned
SMSPVA scores 5.3/10: a massive, cheap catalogue, but only 34% of codes arrived, with a 190 s median — about three attempts per code. The failures are not random: far fewer codes came through on the biggest platforms than elsewhere, the signature of burned numbers, over-used and blocked at the source.
Refunds are ticket-only; we opened 99 of them, with a five-day median to resolution. No identity was ever demanded — the weakness is reliability, not privacy.

5sim scores 4.8/10. When you get a number it works about 81% of the time, but a number was "unavailable" 92 times out of 150, for a real success rate of 31.3% — the worst in the test, at a 65 s median. It advertises "300+ countries" (the UN counts 193 states), and its stock counter sat frozen at 4,127 for three weeks: a picture, not a live stock.
No identity was ever demanded — the failure here is availability, not privacy.

No-KYC is proven when you leave, not when you arrive
Everyone is anonymous at sign-up; the truth appears when you want your money back. That is why we pushed each site past 100 USD in cumulative top-ups, then asked for a balance refund and account deletion. VirtualSMSNumbers, ReadyOTP and OTPAtlas passed with no identity request. sms-man.com did not: it froze $64.00 and demanded an ID and a selfie.
No-KYC is also not the same as anonymous. Your IP address, your browser and the blockchain speak for you: a BTC or USDT top-up stays traceable, while Monero is designed not to be. Among the recommended sites, ReadyOTP accepts Monero.
Why some sites deliver so few codes
A rented number is a shared number, and the platforms that matter most block ones they recognise as virtual. That is what sank SMSPVA (34%) and 5sim (31.3%): not the code, but getting a working number in the first place. The reception rate we publish measures exactly that first step.
Receiving the code and having it accepted by the destination service are separate steps; we measure the first. For long-term use, rent a number for a period or use a real SIM rather than a one-shot number that will be someone else’s tomorrow.

The lab tested the sites over 6 months, from March to August 2026: 150 code requests at each of the 6 scored sites (900 in total), across 10 online services and 15 countries. A code that did not arrive within 20 minutes counted as a failure. Top-ups were timed from send to credit, and the no-KYC promise was pushed to more than 100 USD in cumulative top-ups, then a balance refund and account deletion.
Scores out of 10 express our overall assessment; the record does not specify a weighting formula. Two failures are eliminatory whatever the average: lying about the no-KYC promise, and blocking or making funds disappear — which is why sms-man.com and onlinesim.io are listed separately.
The downloads preserve that scope and separate observations from advertised features; no phone numbers or received codes are published.
