Top-up speed: what we actually recorded
Three Lightning times were recorded. ReadyOTP credited a Lightning top-up in about 5 s, the fastest top-up in our 6-month SMS test. GPURento credited Lightning in about one second during our 4-month GPU test. Giftoshi detected a Lightning payment in about 2 seconds in our 5-month gift-card test; that figure measures detection of the payment, not the credit of a balance. At VirtualSMSNumbers, the 40 s fastest crypto credit is not tied to a specific coin in the record, so it cannot be read as a Lightning time.
The same SMS test shows what topping up looks like without Lightning. OTPAtlas accepts over 15 coins but credits the balance only after on-chain confirmation, which took about 360 s. SMSario takes Bitcoin only, on-chain, with a manual "operator" validation that took 2 to 19 hours and a systematic gap of about 8% between the amount sent and the amount credited.
Which Lightning service to pick in each category
For SMS codes, the two Lightning sites are the top two of our 6-month test (150 code requests per site). VirtualSMSNumbers (9.2/10) received 96.7% of codes with a median delay of 11 s and asks only for an email. ReadyOTP (9.1/10) received 94% with a median delay of 18 s; its account is a 16-digit ID with no email, it is reachable over Tor, and it also accepts Monero.
For gift cards, the top three of our 5-month test all take Lightning. Giftoshi (9.1/10) had 97.5% valid codes and states a €1,000 monthly no-KYC ceiling before you buy. Giftlano (9.1/10) needs no account and also takes Monero. USDTVouchers (9.0/10) accepts over 12 coins, Lightning included, and was the only site where our real cost fell below face value, at -1.5%. Bitrefill takes Lightning too, but its "0% fees" hid an average +7.8% gap against the market rate.
For GPU rental in our 4-month test, GPURento (8.9/10) takes Lightning, Monero and BTC, uses your SSH key as the account and completed 19/20 jobs; its H100 is $2.10 an hour, billed by the minute. BriefGPU (8.9/10) needs an email and a Lightning top-up, or one of ten other coins, and lists the H100 at $1.49, billed by the second. The top-ranked GPURentHub (9.0/10) takes BTC, ETH, USDT and USDC, with no Lightning.
Offshore VPS: a published payment list, not a test
We did not test VPS payments; we read the hosts’ published payment lists on September 8, 2026. Of the five hosts selected in our no-KYC hosting guide, only XmrCloud lists Lightning, next to XMR, BTC, LTC, ETH and USDT, with Monero recommended. It requires an email and advertises no KYC, but its draft terms reserve an identity-document request under a binding court order. Its 2 GB VPS-1 plan was listed at $8.00 a month on September 7, 2026, and it was active at the end of our offshore VPS test, which closed on September 1, 2026.
HushVPS (Monero only), VPSDEN, NimbusVPS and EchelonVPS list no Lightning. TLDBunker, which our hosting guide mentions separately, shows XMR, BTC, Lightning, USDT and LTC through OxaPay on the pricing page we read the same day, but completing a current order there has not been confirmed. The offshore test measured service continuity, not signup or payment, so both Lightning entries are published claims, not observations.
Where Lightning is missing or not confirmed
Of the 18 services rated in our 6-, 5- and 4-month tests, three are recorded without Lightning: OTPAtlas and SMSario for SMS, and GPURentHub for GPUs. Seven more are not confirmed: SMSPVA and 5sim for SMS, eGifter and GiftCardGranny for gift cards, and RunPod, Vast.ai and Supabase for GPUs. "Not confirmed" means the feature was not established during our test, not that the service lacks it.
Our earlier gift-card test, published on September 9, 2026, is a separate campaign: 9 sites, 1 to 3 orders each (18 in total), scored out of 20. All 9 sites were recorded as accepting Lightning, from PrivGift (20/20) to the four processors that applied KYC above a threshold: CoinGate Gift Cards, Cryptorefills, Coinsbee and Bitrefill. In that sample, accepting Lightning did not separate the no-KYC sites from the others.
Frequently asked questions
Which SMS verification site accepts Lightning?
In our 6-month SMS test, two of the six rated sites take Lightning: ReadyOTP (9.1/10), where a Lightning top-up was credited in about 5 s, and VirtualSMSNumbers (9.2/10), whose fastest crypto credit was 40 s. OTPAtlas and SMSario do not; SMSPVA and 5sim are not confirmed.
Can I buy gift cards with Lightning without KYC?
Yes. In our 5-month test, Giftoshi, Giftlano, USDTVouchers and Bitrefill all took Lightning, and no rated site asked for an identity up to 480 EUR of cumulative purchases. Giftoshi detected a Lightning payment in about 2 seconds and states its €1,000 monthly ceiling up front; Giftlano needs no account at all.
Can I rent a GPU with Bitcoin Lightning?
Yes, at GPURento and BriefGPU, two of the six hosts rated in our 4-month GPU test, and neither asked for an identity, even for H100s. GPURento credited Lightning in about one second and uses an SSH key as the account; BriefGPU lists the H100 at $1.49 an hour. The top-ranked GPURentHub takes no Lightning.
Is there an offshore VPS that accepts Lightning?
XmrCloud lists Lightning in the payment options we read on September 8, 2026, the only one of the five hosts selected in our no-KYC hosting guide to do so; its VPS-1 plan was listed at $8.00 a month on September 7, 2026. TLDBunker’s pricing page lists it too, but completing a current order there has not been confirmed. We did not test either Lightning payment.
Does a site that accepts Lightning ask for ID?
It can. In our September 9, 2026 gift-card test, all 9 sites listed Lightning, yet four applied KYC above a threshold: CoinGate Gift Cards beyond 700 EUR, Coinsbee beyond 1,000 EUR per order, and Cryptorefills and Bitrefill for large amounts. The payment rail and the identity policy are separate, so check both before you pay.
Which no-KYC services accept both Lightning and Monero?
ReadyOTP for SMS (6-month test), Giftlano for gift cards (5-month test) and GPURento for GPU rental (4-month test); XmrCloud lists both for VPS hosting, as did the 5 no-KYC sites of our September 9, 2026 gift-card test. We did not measure how private a Lightning payment is; a BTC or USDT top-up stays traceable on the blockchain, while Monero is designed not to be.
